Rescue in theory and practice in demand

Always organized alternately by district associations of different towns, the rescue swimming competition for young people of the water rescue district association of upper and middle franconia is now organized by the district water rescue association of kulmbach. In three different age groups (8-10, 11-13 and 14-16), six participants per team compete in various disciplines.

This is how the young people will be treated on the weekend of the 30. And 31. Marz is first tested for its theoretical knowledge: in the rooms of the carl-von-linde-realschule, the teams go through first-aid stations where they have to treat made-up mimics as quickly as possible – from a simple cut to a scooter accident, there can be anything there.

First the theory, then the practice

So there is a lot of knowledge to prove before the practical part on sunday morning: from ball transport relays to rescue swimming disciplines, in which the participants have to demonstrate their skills fully clothed, the level of difficulty of the disciplines is adapted to the respective age group.

"The necessary training sessions to prepare for the district competition already started in november last year. The children and young people as well as the coaches of the individual teams sacrificed their free time several times a week in order to be able to train for the upcoming event", according to deputy district youth leader jannik ramming. The additional training during the winter vacations in the indoor swimming pool in rehau had made it possible to improve the swimming techniques of the kulmbach team enormously – as well as the enthusiasm of the young people, which could perhaps have led to one of the hoped-for first five places. This meant that the team from the kulmbach district water rescue unit qualified for this year's state competition.

90 helpers in action

With 240 participants scheduled to take part, the district competition on 30./31. Marz naturally involves considerable organizational effort. About 90 volunteers will take care of the arrivals, who will spend the night in the carl-von-linde-realschule and will be catered by the field kitchen of the BRK kulmbach.
